What Is Our Problem?
The problem that we are finding a solution for is how stress eating unhealthy foods can affect your body in a negative way. This problem can be found anywhere in your community. Stress eating can make your body weak by taking away nutrients it needs.
One problem with stress eating is that people going through this can lose nutrients and could get very sick. This usually starts at a young age (teenage years). There's not a lot of nutrients in a teenager's body by itself, so by stress eating and losing nutrients teenagers barely have any nutrients left. Teenagers can even lose teeth if their stress eating gets bad enough. |
Stress eating can have multiple effects on a person; it can lead to loss of certain foods or loss of hunger in general, and or can make food sound really good and welcoming to someone. Emotional and physical (activeness) stress causes the want for sugary foods, so teenagers usually struggle with this since they go through lots of mood and physical changes. Some research shows that women in general eat when stressed, and men smoke or drink.
Most of the time people stress eat, sugary and calorie full foods are being consumed.

Stress eating is caused by emotion, and people do it to cope/deal with problems and or because they feel like it comforts them and their feelings. As said before, people go for the unhealthy foods while stress eating, you can see exactly the types of foods above. One of the biggest problems of stress eating is that people feel very guilty after doing it, so instead of talking to someone, they go on another massive rampage of stress eating. It becomes a habit for them; a never-ending cycle of eating, a solution if they're feeling depressed. And no one can even catch them in the act of stress eating, because they feel ashamed and tend to do it at home (or in a place they can trust they'll be alone).
When people are stressed, their bodies store more food inside of them then when they are relaxed. And honestly, people gain more weight stress eating than just eating in general. We really want people to recognize how problematic this is, so here are some statistics on stress eating:

Overall, we really work together as a time to help people acknowledge stress eating. It's a huge problem in L.A. right now, with fast food restaurants popping up everywhere. We want people to watch their eating habits, so they can help themselves and other struggling have a better diet.
